Best Practice:  Lets Talk Marketing

  • Be where your audience is.
  • Attend one event a year in your subject area.

Blubrry News:

  • Our Next Best Tool contest is ending soon.
  • The Divi Theme version 4 upgrade is causing issues with PowerPress feeds (mostly missing episodes in the feed) to fix this only publish podcast posts without using the Divi builder to avoid the issue. Divi is working on a solution. You can also use the previous version of Divi theme until they get it fixed. Contact Elegant Themes support for help with this issue.

Joshua Manley – Nerd On! The Podcast

Support:

  • Google Podcasts – Your link might not work, find your Google Podcasts link here: https://search.google.com/devtools/podcast/preview (do a google search for Google Podcasts Preview)
  • Feed Discovery Setting (this helps you get on Google Podcasts) in PowerPress.
  • Pandora and iHeart radio: They can be picky and it will take a while to get on them. We put the destination in PowerPress for those who are in those directories. No guarantees you will get into those directories.
  • If you’re hosting with us, Spotify will accept you as long as your feed is technically good. (no M4A files) Pass thru coming.
  • Deezer, will accept you if your feed is technically good. No need to host with Blubrry but you must be listed in Blubrry and have claimed your show listing.
  • Anyone out there still using PodPress (a really old podcasting plugin for WordPress) needs to change to PowerPress (or something else I guess) right away. PodPress has been hacked. WordPress.org even says it’s no longer available for download.
  • One-on-one video screen-sharing support: Yes, we do that! but only for paying customers. Our free products (stats, PowerPress without hosting and directory listings) are not eligible for that level of support. Teachercast Network – Jeffrey Bradbury – PCI-163

Podcast Insider, Halloween edition 🕸 🎃 👻

Holiday season is upon us and we’re working on wrapping up a few projects, while others are looking to start some new ones after the New Year. Spotify is in need of a content analyst, Voxnest says Spotify’s popularity is higher than Apple in Europe and NPR is bringing back their successful Student Podcast Challenge. Our network plugin is almost ready, listen in to understand pricing.

Thanks for joining us on this episode of Podcast Insider.

News:

Send us your podcast stickers. Trade you one of yours for one of ours. We’ll send you back some Podcast Insider stickers and some Blubrry merch.

Send a self-address stamped envelope to:

Blubrry Podcasting
150 E. Campus View Blvd. Suite 180
Columbus, OH 43235

Best Practice:

Keep it simple: Just because you can write separate show notes for each app directory, doesn’t mean you need to. The fewer choices directories have to choose from when pulling your RSS feed, the better. One post, with everything you’d like displayed everywhere is best. It’s hard to control what apps and directories do with your RSS feed. RSS is standard and each directory decides on different tags to display in their app. We’ll be doing more research on this soon.

Blubrry News:

  • Network Plugin ALMOST ready to test. Watch for changes to the TechPodcasts.com over the next few days
    • Network Plugin pricing.
    • Professional accounts only – no additional charge for plugin.
    • Shows in the professional account, no charge.
    • If they add shows not in the professional account, they can purchase bucket of shows.
    • 1-10 $50/mo.
    • 11-20 $100/mo.
    • 21-30 $150/mo.
    • 30+ get in touch for pricing
  • We are almost ready on passthrough with Spotify

Interview:

Teacher Cast Network – Jeffrey Bradbury

Support:

  • Changing the name/title of your podcast.
    • In PowerPress > Feeds tab. Change it in the ‘Feed Title’ (show title) box.
    • In Blubrry Publisher, change it in the title box in the “Podcast Settings” link under “Podcast Feed” in the Podcaster Dashboard.
    • NOTE! You can not do both! If you’re using PowerPress, the change must be made there, and the same if using the Blubrry publisher.
  • The single best place to get help with Blubrry services is at BLUBRRY. Not Facebook, Twitter, IG, direct email, or anywhere else. Blubrry.com/contact OR call us. (not AND call us). If you make a contact there, someone will get to you. NO need to call, tweet, email or post to Facebook.

  • Descript Studio is now available. It’s a very interesting audio app!

Make sure your subscribe sidebar widget is above the fold. When someone comes to your site on any device, this way they don’t have to scroll up or down to subscribe.

  • PowerPress 8 scheduled to be released on the 9/30/19

Support:

  • When publishing a podcast episode, make sure you check that the file plays right after you publish. Press play or download just to make sure.
  • Here’s a publishing checklist:
    • Look at the post as a user would see it. (Good time to check for typos and such in the blog post as well)
    • Publish the post
    • Clear any site caching
    • Hit play on the player. Does it play?
    • Hit the download link. Does is either download?
    • Check the RSS feed at CastFeedValidator.com
    • Relax in the knowledge that my episode is out and inform your audience 🙂
  • If only one app is having an issue, it’s most likely that app, and not your feed or your hosting company. Even if that app is Apple Podcasts.

Blubrry has lots of announcements and tips for podcast support this time around on Podcast Insider. Thanks for joining us on this episode of Podcast Insider.

Interview:

Tim O’Brien from The Shaping Opinion Podcast

News:

Best Practices:

  • Stats: What number is the most important to track?

Blubrry News:

Support:

  • Show notes tips: Trying to force different apps to display different versions of your show notes is going to drive you crazy. If one app is not looking like you want it to, and all the rest are, the problem is with THAT app, not your feed. Don’t give them a choice. Put whatever you want to show everywhere in the post. RSS is a standard; apps and directories can pick and choose what parts of the RSS feed they will use and what parts they won’t. You do not get to control that and neither do we.
  • Patience: If you email support at 3AM ET, please do not email again at 6AM wondering why we haven’t answered you. Or worse yet, get on social media. We will get to you within 24 hours during the business week and likely the same on the weekends.
